Central Louisiana Arts & Healthcare has published "Beyond Katrina", a book of poems, quotes
and images inspired by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita that hit the Gulf Coast in 2005.
The book vividly captures the thoughts shared by hurricane victims, volunteers and observers whose lives have been forever changed by the power of nature and the kindness of human beings. Our editor Patricia Powell and the volunteer artists with our Arts & Healthcare Initiative collected dozens of poems, quotes and images while helping people to express themselves through the arts and ultimately heal. We hope that anyone who reads Beyond Katrina will be touched by the broad range of emotions - the rage, the fear, the helplessness, the frustration, the gratitude, the love, the compassion - and the belief that we will recover. Proceeds from the sale of this book will go directly to New Orleans Habitat For Humanity to help victims of the hurricanes rebuild their lives. We have also assembled a "Beyond Katrina" art exhibit featuring 41 pieces of art and poetry from the shelters.
